Following the race to Christmas No.1, and tipping Justin Bieber to the top spot, the Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Choir have since gone on to perform at the FA Cup Final and will now be making their way to the country’s No.1 festival: Glastonbury.
Opening the world-famous Pyramid stage on Saturday 25th June at 11.30am, the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir will perform a 30-minute set. They’ll be followed by the likes of Adele, Ellie Goulding and Coldplay on the very same stage.
The performance is perfectly timed with the launch of their debut album ‘Something Inside So Strong’, available for pre-order and released on June 24th on Decca Records.
Caroline Smith, Children’s Physiotherapist at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, commented: “This is amazing and a bit surreal. We can’t believe that we are performing at Glastonbury with many of our heroes the day after our debut album is being released. Our goal is to celebrate the NHS and all its amazing staff, so to do this at Glastonbury is a dream come true.”
The choir recorded the album in their spare time. All royalties earned by choir members through the album will be paid into Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust’s charitable funds. The charity funds things that are not NHS provision but enhance patient experience and staff working lives (for example, arts for health projects such as dance and singing groups for patients).
